In the heart of Washington D.C., a brand new venue wanted to do things a little differently.
Butterworth's is a cafe, bar and restaurant on Capitol Hill that pairs whimsical ambience with meticulously crafted cuisine. The venue is a wonderful cacophony of styles, sounds and flavours, and the team needed a brand identity that reflected and amplified this in-venue experience.
Together with Butterworth's, we created a logo, colour palette, illustrations, stationery, signage, uniforms and a website.
Inspired by the whimsical drawings featured in early 1900s European publications, we created a large collection of illustrations for Butterworth's.
With a focus on animals, service and romance, these illustrations can be used to add personality and flair to menus, stationery, signage and memorabilia.
We built a new website for Butterworth's that is flexible, easy to navigate, easy to edit and on brand.
Through a powerful content management system, menus, galleries and patron reviews can be updated as quickly and easily as the Butterworth's staff create new dishes, drinks, and experiences.
Plus, it looks great on desktop, tablet and mobile.
"We launched Butterworth's cafe, bar, and restaurant 4 months ago on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., and it has quickly become a hub for the world's most powerful political forces. Modular understood what we needed straight away and broadened our vision for what was possible with the Butterworth's brand. It was a pleasure to go through the process from the early collaborative research to the charming final result – we loved the illustrations especially and use them wherever we can. Alex reacted quickly to our changing needs and global time zone differences as we opened the door to our new venue."
